"Pain-brian"

Films: Ice Crawlers (2002)

Alias: None

Type: Ancient

Location: Civilized Area

Height/Weight: From housecats to twice that of average humans.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: One of the most recognized animals to inhabit the Earth before the dinosaurs did is the humble trilobite. A pioneer of eyesight and other things that we now take for granted, we owe a lot to this cute little arthropod. But alas, Hollywood has a way of turning even the most harmless thing into a source of nightmares.

History: Somewhere in Antarctica, the Geotech Corporation desperately drills away in search of oil. Then one day, they dug too deep, unearthing something ancient and very hungry. A massive carnivorous species of trilobite has awakened, and now everyone stuck in the main building stands a chance of being turned into either an incubator for its eggs or just plain food.

Notable Kills: The human incubator we do see...well, I think we all know where most of the budget went...

Final Fate: All of the trilobites are killed, with the last one being offed by a shotgun blast and the queen trilobite getting caught in an explosion that takes out the entire facility. However, it is unclear if the trilobite survived that or not...

Powers/Abilities: None.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 4-For such a low-budget film, these trilobites are a good argument for never ever EVER drilling in the uncharted ice again. Half the time, they look like the kind of thing you'd see in a roach motel from the blackest pit of Hell (that body-bursting scene...). On the other hand, the queen doesn't do much aside from wave around, and when the regular ones are moving on the ground, they're actually quite adorable. Look at that widdle maneater scurry across the floor!

Trivia: -The largest trilobite to be found intact was Isotelus Rex, an appropriately named beast as big as a medium-sized dog.

-Trilobites come in all shapes and sizes, but on the subject of diet, they were believed to be nothing more than bottom feeders, eating small organisms and whatever scraps may be on the ocean floor.
